Here's some good news for the casual fan tuning into this game, both the Ravens and the Saints have a penchant for playing close games this season.
For the Ravens, after their first week 24-9 victory over the Jets, their following 7 games have all been decided by 9 points or less with 6 of them by 5 or less points. For the Saints, they finally had a decisive 24-0 statement win last week against the sputtering Raiders, but their 7 games prior had an average scoring differential of 6 points, with all decided by 10 points or less. And these aren't necessarily low scoring games. Both these teams rank in the top 8 in points scored per game, Ravens 5th at 26 points and Saints 8th at 25 points, and both give up almost the same, with the Ravens allowing 23 points and the Saints 25.
The Ravens generate more or less all their offense running the football, led by mobile QB extraordinaire Lamar Jackson. They are 2nd in the league in rushing yards per game and 25th in passing. Funny enough their defense is the perfect team to stop their offense, specializing the same way, by allowing the 3rd lowest rushing yards per game and the 28th highest in passing yards. Meanwhile, the Saints are a lot more balanced. On offense, they are 7th in passing yards per game and 9th in rushing yards. While on defense, they rank 15th in passing yards per game allowed and 11th in rushing allowed.
So if history is any indicator, we should see a close game with plenty of points scored. Which always creates more excitement for us fans, especially when both teams have something to play for. A loss for the Ravens drops them into a tie for their division lead with Cincinnati and a victory for the Saints brings them into a three way tie for their division lead with Tampa and Atlanta. Will the Saints build off their big win last week to arrive at ties in both divisions or will the Ravens continue to add to their first winning streak of the season?
If that's not enough excitement for you, that's why we're here, to bring you some additional friendly competition below with our Props.
